ASEAN promotes tourism attractions in World Travel Fair
SEOUL, 13 June 2016 – ASEAN-Korea Centre set up the ASEAN Pavilion in the 31st Korea World Travel Fair (KOTFA) at the COEX Convention Center in Seoul from 9-12 June to promote ASEAN as an attractive tourist destination.
On the first day of the fair, the launching ceremony for the ASEAN campaign “Visit ASEAN@50: Golden Celebration” in 2017 was held. Ambassador Kim Young-sun, Secretary General of the ASEAN-Korea Centre attended the ceremony along with key persons from tourism-related organizations in ASEAN, including Mas Ermieyati Samsudin, Deputy Minister of Tourism and Culture of Malaysia; Benito C. Bengzon, Jr., Chair of the ASEAN Sustainable and Inclusive Tourism Development Committee (ASITDC); and Sounh Manivong, Director General, Tourism Development Department, Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism of Lao PDR. The campaign aimed to promote ASEAN as a single destination. The ASEAN Tourism Association has developed 50 ASEAN tourism products and visitors enjoyed the richness of culture, heritage, nature and warmth of ASEAN hospitality.
During the fair, the ASEAN Pavilion promoted ASEAN through publications on the cultures and tourism of ASEAN as well as information sessions, combined with experiential activities such as learning ASEAN languages, ASEAN Travel Mobile Application download event, ASEAN Quiz, ASEAN Puzzle and ASEAN Roulette game.
To promote hidden jewels and attractions of ASEAN—top outbound tourist destination for Koreans, and provide the general public of Korea with useful information on the ASEAN tourism, the Centre has been participating in the KOTFA, one of the largest international travel fairs in Korea, since 2013. This year’s fair was expected to provide more rich and diverse tourism information on ASEAN as it has developed cluster/corridor packages whereby the visitors can enjoy more than two countries of ASEAN with a single tourism product.
