“4000 Salam ASEAN” Poised to Break Indonesian World Record

Indonesian junior diplomats are aiming to create the longest line of ASEAN hand-holding and break the MURI’s (Indonesian World Record Museum) record with 4,000 students and general public in the Indonesian capital. The event will take place on Sunday, 15 September 15 2013 at the National Monument (Monas), Merdeka Square, Central Jakarta, and will run from 6.30 to 11.00 in the morning. This effort is in commemoration of the 46th anniversary of ASEAN this year and is open to the public.

“Youths today are more inspired and innovative than ever.  With determination, desire and technology, their involvement in raising awareness about ASEAN is instrumental to move our young people closer to ASEAN Community 2015,” Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for Community and Corporate Affairs, Dr. AKP Mochtan said. “This initiative of the Indonesian junior diplomats is an excellent and fun way of reaching out to the youth and we are completely in support of this endeavor,” DSG Mochtan added.

Called “4000 Salam ASEAN”, the Junior Diplomatic Academy batch 37 of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia are organizing activities such as flashmob, photo contest, Q&As with the young Diplomats at the “Diplomatic World” booth, and special performance by Leo AFI & band. The highlight will be the formation of ASEAN hand-holding by at least 4,000 people around the National Monument. Participants will learn about ASEAN Community 2015 through this event.

Public figures, high-school and college students, and representatives of ASEAN are expected to grace this event, Winners of the photo contest will be determined according to the number of likes generated on Facebook.  Prizes will be sponsored by the ASEAN Secretariat.
