BEIJING, Oct. 24 (Yonhap) — Samsung Electronics Co., the world’s largest maker of smartphones, issued an apology on Thursday for selling “faulty” smartphones to Chinese customers, days after the official China Central Television (CCTV) station launched a broadside against its smartphones.

“We have noticed the recent report by the CCTV,” the Chinese unit of Samsung said in a statement posted on its website. “We would like to express our deep apologies for causing inconvenience to our customers as a result of the issue.”

The CCTV ran a 30-minute special late Monday, criticizing Samsung for selling “faulty” Galaxy S3 smartphones, making the South Korean electronics giant the latest foreign company to come under fire by China’s state-run broadcaster.
