The Association
of Southeast Asian Nations or ASEAN was
establishedon 8 August 1967 in |
Bangkok by the five original Member Countries,
namely, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore,
and Thailand. Brunei Darussalam joined on 8 January
1984, Vietnam on 28 July 1995, Laos and Myanmar
on 23 July 1997, and Cambodia on 30 April 1999.

The ASEAN-Japan Centre has been promoting trade, investment and tourism relations between ASEAN countries and Japan through its various activities for 24 years since its establishment in 1981.Having achieved a remarkable economic development during these years, ASEAN realized the ASEAN 10, overcame the economic crisis in the late 90s, and has been steadily strengthening its solidarity within the region.Presently, ASEAN is vigorously promoting the creation of the ASEAN Community by 2020, which comprises of three pillars, namely the ASEAN Security Community, ASEAN Economic Community and Socio-Cultural Community.An Action Programme was also adopted last year as a concrete road map.

In recognition of the growth of Korea's Burgeoning Cultural content industry, the nation capital of culture, Gwangju, is preparing to host the ACE Fair in September of this year. I would like to take this opportunity to invite you cordially to this year event which is certain to be lively festival where visitors can come witness and experience the future of this exciting field.
ACE fair 2007 hopes to capitalize on the success of the first ACE Fair held last year which attracted over 35,000 visitors and confirmed the growth potential and need for an exhibition specific to the culture sector.
